J-ENG received the first order for Low Pressure EGR System

Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG) has received the first order for 7UEC60LSE-Eco-A2-EGR engine from Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Oshima) for a 99,000dwt bulk carrier. The vessel will be operated by NIPPON YUSEN KAISHA (NYK Line) for a long-term.

As a solution technology for NOx TierⅢ regulation (TierⅢ), one of the environmental regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), J-ENG has developed the “Low Pressure EGR System (LP-EGR)”, which is the first attempt in the world to use it for two stroke marine diesel engine. J-ENG already successfully completed the on-board verification on April 2017.

J-ENG’s LP-EGR is the original and unique technology to utilize low pressure exhaust gas from turbocharger outlet and has economical advantage by reducing NOx drastically from the present TierⅡ regulation in Emission Control Areas (ECAs), while minimizing the increase of fuel oil consumption.

LP-EGR realizes simple system arrangement of exhaust gas recirculation line and main components with taking advantage of treating lower pressure and temperature gas, and to improves maintainability with reducing the operation costs.

Furthermore considering possible restricted area expansion of drainage water in Northern America and/or Europe, LP-EGR system has no waste water drainage from the water treatment system. This concept realizes easy outfitting, operation and maintenance, and also can contribute to Shipper, Operator and Owner’s CSR.

During TierⅡ operation, LP-EGR system can also attain flexibly to less fuel oil consumption by reducing the exhaust gas recirculation ratio in the future which improves both fuel oil consumption and NOx emission amount.

LP-EGR can be provided for other engine manufactures in order to aim the global standard for TierⅢ technology. As the licensor of “Japan’s world class marine diesel engines”, J-ENG, receiving this first order for LP-EGR together with Low Pressure SCR System already in-service, will continuously move forward to innovate and provide the best TierⅢ solutions for customers.
