Receiving an order of 3 sets of main engine from Onomichi Dockyard Co., Ltd. for 17,500DWT greater coasting vessels owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Kinkai Ltd.

Japan Engine Corporation(J-ENG) has announced to receive an order of 3 sets of 6UEC35LSE-B2 diesel engines as the main engines for 17,500 DWT greater coasting vessels built by Onomichi Dockyard Co., Ltd. and owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Kinkai Ltd.

These vessels are to be applied the GHG regulation of EEDI phase 3 in advance to lessen the environmental load.
The third main engine with a change option of MGO mono-fuel engine which was co-developed with Onomichi Dockyard Co., Ltd. and supported by the Nippon Foundation.

The MGO mono-fuel engine utilizes the stratified fuel/water injection concept to inject multi layers of fuel and water into the combustion chamber. The current MGO mono-fuel engine is designed for MGO and water injection, but it can burn other fuels other than water. This technology has a high potential to reduce GHG by mixed combustion with ammonia, bio-fuels, and e-fuel(*) like ethanol that can be contributed GHG reduction in accordance with further tightening regulations.

Comparing with LNG-firing main engines, not only main engine itself, but auxiliary systems, fuel tanks and fuel supply system, can save the initial investment, which will be the best solution for middle / small class vessels to realize less environmental load.

To reach the goal of zero-GHG within this century, development of the next generation engine burning hydrogen is being studied. J-ENG will contribute to achieve the SDGs through the current and new technology to realize a carbon neutral society under the ESG management philosophy.

(*) e-fuel: Fuels those produced by recyclable energy such as solar and wind-power
